NESCol

Beacon Award

The College has been shortlisted for an Association of Colleges Beacon Award – The JISC Award for the Effective Use of Technology in FE. Three assessors visited the College on 20 September 2016, but the success of the College's bid will not be announced until November 2016.

Bridge 2 Business Awards 2016

North East Scotland College was shortlisted for four categories in the Bridge 2 Business Awards 2016:

  • Bridge 2 Business Entrepreneurial FE College of the Year Award 2016: 
    Reflects the College's work in entrepreneurship, led by John Davidson, Vice Principal Learning & Quality, and Susan Betty, Director of Curriculum.
  • Bridge 2 Business Entrepreneurial FE College Educator of the Year Award 2016: 
    Tony Young, Curriculum and Quality Manager for Music, Drama, Media and Essential Skills has been individually shortlisted for this award.
  • Bridge 2 Business Entrepreneurial FE College Educator of the Year Award 2016: 
    Stephen Morrison, Lecturer in Business Studies, has been individually shortlisted for this award.
  • Bridge 2 Business Entrepreneurial FE College Educator of the Year Award 2016: 
    Kathy Horne, Lecturer in Computing, has been individually shortlisted for this award.

The College was announced as winner of the Entrepreneurial FE College of the Year Award - an accolade awarded to the most entrepreneurial focused college, which combines student attainment with commercially-focused activities and skills development.

Civic Society Award

The College received a Civic Society Award in 2015, for the successful transformation of its Aberdeen City Campus in the Gallowgate. This was in recognition not only of the huge transformation in the building's appearance, but also for the vast reduction in the building's carbon energy usage.

College Development Network Awards

The College has been shortlisted for the Developing a Regional Curriculum Award at the CDN Awards 2016. The winners will be announced in November 2016. The Annual Awards recognise the talent, skills and achievements of colleges, their staff and learners; and provide a valuable opportunity to celebrate the outstanding projects and initiatives taking place in colleges, the length and breadth of Scotland. For more information, visit: www.cdn.ac.uk/cdn-annual-awards-2016

In 2015, North East Scotland College achieved three coveted awards at the College Development Network (CDN) Annual Awards ceremony. The College received Commended in the Employer Engagement Award category; Highly Commended in the Essential Skills Award and Commended in the Learning and Teaching Award.

College Development Network Marketing Awards

In February 2014 North East Scotland College received two Gold Awards at the Awards Ceremony held in Glasgow, one in the Promotional Literature category and the Student Award for Best Prospectus.

In February 2015, the College received another two awards at the College Development Network Marketing Awards, this time held in Edinburgh. The team picked up a Gold Award for the College Prospectus for the second year in succession (which promoted 2015-16 courses) and a Silver Award for Promotional Literature, for ‘NE Scene’ - a College magazine aimed at secondary school pupils.

In February 2016, the NESCol Publicity and Marketing team were presented with four awards.  The team received a gold award in the Promotional Literature category for the 2015/2016 Part-time Course Guide; silver in both the Communications and PR category and Design category; and bronze in the Students' Award for Prospectus category.

Healthy Working Lives - Gold Award

The Healthy Working Lives Award Programme is an outcomes-focused approach to support employers and employees to achieve these benefits in the organisation in a practical, logical and beneficial way. Having registered, organisations can begin working up through the three levels of Award, from Bronze and Silver, and on to Gold. In achieving the Healthy Working Lives Gold Award, North East Scotland College has successfully demonstrated their ongoing commitment to improving the health, safety and wellbeing of its employees and a health, safety and wellbeing culture with evidence of positive behavioural changes from employees.

Investors in People

North East Scotland College was confirmed to have met the new Investors in People standard at Silver level in November 2015 - the first college in Scotland to achieve this standard against the new framework. The assessors provided some very positive and encouraging feedback at the end of their assessment visit.

ISO 14001

The College has achieved the ISO 14001 Standard from the British Safety Institute for Environmental Management.

ISO 50001

ISO 50001 supports organisations in all sectors to use energy more efficiently. As of May 2017, the College is fully accredited to the Energy Management System BSI ISO 50001.

iTech Award

Jisc Scotland showcase a range of resources to support the use of ICT for learning and teaching. In 2014, North East Scotland College's BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) project achieved an RSC Scotland Innovation in Technology Award, within the Mobile Learning category.

NESS Data Centre

North East Scotland College aims to utilise shared services where possible, in order to help improve efficiency and sustainability in line with the Regional Outcome Agreement. The North East Scotland Shared Data Centre (NESSDC) is a £1.5m initiative involving a unique shared services data centre for the four tertiary educational establishments in the North East of Scotland. The Data Centre was a joint venture between the College, the University of Aberdeen and Robert Gordon University. The project was completed in 2013, and since completion has received a number of awards, including:

OHSAS 18001

The British Standards Institute's (BSIOHSAS 18001 is a framework for an occupational health and safety management system. It helps the college put in place the policies, procedures and controls needed for us to achieve the best possible working conditions, aligned to internationally recognised best practice. This award is achieved by demonstrating to external auditors, who themselves must be health and safety specialists, that we have systems in place to comply with the Health and Safety at Work Act and any underpinning Regulations that are appropriate for our organisational needs.

Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) Awards 2015

The College successfully achieved the RoSPA President's Award for 2015. These internationally recognised awards have become the most sought after accolade by organisations from every sector, offering organisations the opportunity to prove their ongoing commitments to raising standards. The President's Award (12 consecutive Golds) has been awarded to the College due to its efforts in raising awareness and sustaining high quality approaches to managing risks in the workplace.

Scottish Training Federation Awards 2016

Scottish Maritime Academy

Employer Engagement Awards

The Scottish Maritime Academy was commended in the Employer Engagement Award Category at the College Development Network Annual Awards 2014 for its approaches 2013-14 and actions/development in 2014-15. The award recognises the creative approaches taken to enhance employer engagement activity.

Merchant Navy Training Board

The Merchant Navy Training Board - part of the UK Chamber of Shipping - awarded the Scottish Maritime Academy approval to deliver Merchant Navy Cadetships. As a result, the Academy joins only a handful of colleges able to offer this three year course in the UK, which offers rewarding career prospects with clear progression routes within the merchant fleet.
