Creative Textiles Techniques

A practical, creative course for those interested in creating their own textiles.

Overview

Why take this course?

This hands-on course will teach you how to take create your own unique textile designs, and will allow you build on the basic skills you may have learned on the Introduction to Sewing & Textiles course.

What you will experience

You will be given the freedom to create your own designs, inspired by textiles in their widest sense, and will start by looking at examples of contemporary textile designs in order to give you some inspiration and ideas. Once you have completed the design stage, you will then look to explore different techniques, such as applique, embroidery, hand stitching, collage, wire-work and construction. You will also learn to use hand and machine stitching for the purpose of manipulation, decoration and embellishments of paper and fabrics to inspire textiles.

Entry requirements

There are no formal entry requirements, but it is recommended that students with no experience complete the Introduction to Sewing and Textiles course first.

What you will need

Students will be expected to bring in their own fabrics, material and possibly patterns but this will be discussed with the tutor at the first meeting of the course.
