This course is portfolio-focused, helping you to build a solid body of work evidence.
Why take this course?
This course is primarily aimed at those who want to build a portfolio, and will allow you to experiment with different designs and approaches whilst developing key practical skills. The course will increase your understanding of contemporary art and design and prepare you for advancing towards further study at college or at university.
What you will experience
You will develop important skills in life drawing, analytical drawing and in exploratory media handling. You will also develop strong painting skills, learn about the use of colour in your work, and explore other key aspects of art and design such as contextual studies and digital media.
Applicants should have relevant knowledge and skills. A qualification in Art & Design at National 5, Intermediate 2 or Standard Grade Credit level (at least) is recommended.
An English qualification at this level is also preferred, but at the very least applicants should have achieved Core Skills Communication at SCQF Level 5.

If you choose to complete a HNC or HND course after completing your NC, you may want to then consider moving on to a university degree. Depending on the university and the course, you could enter in to year 2 or year 3 of a related course.
