Why take this course?
This course is aimed at school leavers or those who wish to experience the various construction trades before pursuing employment or further training, often as an apprentice.
The course covers some National Progression Award (NPA) Units (L5), and will provide you with a well-rounded base knowledge of building – allowing you to discover and develop the skills necessary to progress.
What you will experience
You will make the most of our custom-built construction facilities whilst gaining valuable, handson experience in bricklaying, carpentry and joinery, painting and decorating, and plumbing. This will allow you to identify which subject areas you prefer and which career path you might want to follow.
The course also covers NPA Units in Construction, and will focus on core skills in communication, numeracy and IT (Level 4 or 5).
There are no formal entry requirements, but preference may be given to those with a Skills for Work Construction qualification. You will be required to attend an interview and complete an aptitude test.
Please note that those who wish to progress to a specific trade should be aware that there are requirements for apprentices, and the course will go some way to addressing these.
