Why take this course?

More people in the UK are either overweight or obese than at any other time in the past three decades, according to new data analysis. This could be significantly reduced if an engaged understanding of the importance of healthy eating became commonplace.

This short, auto-marked programme will give you the knowledge you need to understand weight-related health issues and how to control and manage a healthy diet.

The course is completed online with auto-marked assessments, and can be completed in your own time.  It is a great addition to your CV, as it will highlight your commitment to – and understanding of – health and fitness.

What you will experience

The course has four main sections:

Section 1: The risks associated with ineffective weight management
In this section, learners will familiarise themselves with a range of terms relating to ineffective weight management, learn to recognise health risks associated with obesity and emaciation, and learn about the warning signs of malnourishment.

Section 2: How body image may influence weight management
Learners will start to really understand the meaning of the term ‘body image’ and will study media portrayal of body image and the negative effect it can have on weight management.

Section 3: Effective methods of weight management
This section will help the learner understand the role of a balanced diet, and the meaning of the term ‘energy balance’. Weight management programmes, lifestyle choices and the common myths surrounding weight loss are also studied.

Section 4: Planning a short weight management programme
In the final section, learners will learn how to plan their own diet and nutrition programmes, how to identify goals and how to collect information relating to the plans they are working on.
