Foundation Apprenticeships

Foundation Apprenticeships are a new programme offered in partnership with industry, combining contextualised work-based learning and classroom-based learning. The programmes have been designed to meet the needs of young people whilst being responsive to the needs of the regional labour market.

Starting in S4 or S5, the hands-on experiences available will lead to an industry-recognised qualification at SCQF Level 6 (the same level as a Higher). The reason for providing a vocational experience at this point in the pupil’s school career is to help make the transition from school into employment or into further or higher education. As such, a range of progression opportunities are available to young people completing the Foundation Apprenticeship programme.
