Student Focus: Jodie Ross

Jodie Ross (21) has recently completed an HND in Advertising and Public Relations at North East Scotland College.  She said, “I had always wanted to study a business subject and after looking at each course I realised that Advertising and PR allows you to be creative and has a lot of different aspects.”

Jodie has enjoyed the wide variety of topics the course has covered.  She said, “I have really enjoyed learning the theory and then being able to put it into practice with the units that allowed you to make business decisions whilst creating PR and marketing campaigns.  My favourite unit was Industrial Investigation where I researched how Scotland is marketed as a tourist destination.”

Having been slightly apprehensive about moving to Aberdeen from her home in the Highlands, Jodie soon settled in at NESCol.  She said, “I’ve made so many close friends and enjoyed college life more than I thought I would.”

Jodie is now progressing to the third year of a degree in public relations at Robert Gordon University through DegreeLink, the College’s 2 + 2 partnership with RGU.  After completing her degree, she plans to take some time out to travel around Europe before looking for work.  She said, “Ideally I would like to secure a job in marketing or communications within the tourism industry as it’s an area I’m really interested in.”

When asked what she would say to others considering studying a business-related course at NESCol, she said, “I would definitely recommend college to others who are interested in my subject area.”
