NESCol celebrates success of Fraserburgh graduates
September 21, 2024
The achievements of North East Scotland College graduates and prize winners were celebrated today in the first of three ceremonies to be hosted this year.
Fraserburgh Campus was the venue for the opening event, with the Music Hall in Aberdeen providing the stage for two further ceremonies on 1 October.
Around 60 graduates were honoured in subjects including accounting, art and design, business, childhood practice, computing and engineering. They were joined by almost 200 guests and members of NESCol staff.
NESCol Principal Neil Cowie said: “Our congratulations go to every member of the class of 2024. They have earned their time in the spotlight and we are very proud of all that they have achieved with NESCol.
“Graduation is the start of the next chapter in each individual story – we’re very much looking forward to watching as those next steps are taken, confident in the knowledge and skills that our graduates have built.”
The ceremony, which was hosted by BBC Scotland’s Fiona Stalker and featured guest speaker Jamie Hutcheon of Business Gateway as well as a stunning performance by former NESCol music student Jasmine Mackintosh, included the presentation of six special awards.
The Endeavour Award, sponsored by the Rotary Club of Fraserburgh, recognises the achievement of a student who has overcome challenges whilst working towards their qualification. It was won by Shania Thom, who was noted for her determination to succeed and significant growth in both her academic abilities and self-confidence.
The Scottish Qualifications Authority Student Award, made each year to an individual who has shone during their time at NESCol, was won by Logan Skene. Logan’s attitude and dedication shone through in his nomination, winning praise from his employer and colleagues as he worked towards his Modern Apprenticeship.
Four awards sponsored by Score Group were also presented. These awards are for students who impressed lecturing teams with their effort and commitment in engineering disciplines.
The award for HNC Engineering Practice was collected by Lewis Cleland. The prize for HNC Mechanical Engineering went to Angus Noble, part of the Shell Engineering Scheme, and the award for HND Mechanical Engineering was won by Gregor Robertson. The HNC Electrical Engineering prize winner was Connor Sutherland.
NESCol is one of the largest providers of vocational education and training in Scotland, delivering to more than 20,000 full-time, part-time and distance learning students each year.
