Preparation for Work (SCQF Level 3)
“I like the relaxed, friendly atmosphere and my parents and lecturers have all commented on how I’ve grown in confidence. I’ve made new friends and look forward to coming to College each day.“
Andrew first accessed NESCol’s supported learning provision during his fourth year at school through a Schools-College partnership course.
He attended City Campus one day per week and enjoyed the supported learning environment. When deciding his next steps, applying for a full-time course at College was an obvious choice for him.
He is now a student on the Preparation for Work (SCQF Level 3) course and is thriving, enjoying his new challenge. The course allows learners to try out different vocational areas throughout the year. At City Campus Andrew will experience units in hospitality, retail, gardening, social subjects, and bakery. The supported learning course encourages independence and is a fun, positive introduction to the world of work and further education.
Thoughts on the supported learning courses at College
Andrew said, “I like the relaxed, friendly atmosphere and my parents and lecturers have all commented on how I’ve grown in confidence. My lecturers are so nice and I’ve made new friends through the course. I look forward to my days in College.”
Andrew plans to continue onto the Qualfication for Work (SCQF Level 4) course with his ultimate goal to study and then work in construction.
Andrew’s Mum, Jenna Robison, is thrilled with how well her son is enjoying NESCol life and said,
“It’s been great to see the difference in Andrew since he started at College. His confidence has grown, he’s made new friends and the support he receives from staff is fantastic. The course is varied and allows him to try a range of subjects which is giving him skills for the future. Every parent wants their child to be happy and safe and Andrew has found that at NESCol. The course and the learning environment allow him to be his true self. “
