NESCol offer a range of care-related distance learning programmes, leading to nationally recognised qualifications, all of which are fully funded.

Awareness of Mental Health Problems
NCFE Certificate, Level 2

To broaden knowledge of mental ill-health and commonly diagnosed mental health conditions. Includes developing awareness of the signs/symptoms of these conditions and how they affect people’s day-to-day lives, and the successful management of these conditions. This qualification is mapped to the Skills for Health National Occupational Standards and the knowledge set for dementia from Skills for Care. Duration: 160 hours.

Certificate in Understanding Nutrition and Health
NCFE Certificate, Level 2

To increase understanding of the principles of healthy eating and the role of food in maintaining health enabling the planning and achievement of a healthy diet. Includes: principles of healthy eating; nutritional needs of individuals; food/nutrition information to plan a healthy diet; principles of weight management; understanding eating disorders; food safety for the home environment. Duration: 126 hours.

Common Health Conditions
NCFE Certificate, Level 2

To improve knowledge, understanding and support of common health conditions: arthritis care, stroke, dementia, Parkinson’s disease and sensory loss awareness. Relevant for all health-care settings including care homes, hospitals and domiciliary care. Duration: 141 hours.

Counselling Skills
NCFE Certificate, Level 2

To increase understanding of counselling skills and techniques in order to engage in helpful interaction appropriately. Includes: using counselling skills; counselling skills theories; diversity and ethics in counselling skills; counselling skills and personal development. Please note this course does not qualify learners to practice as a counsellor. Duration: 120 hours.

Dignity and Safeguarding in Adult Health and Social Care
NCFE Certificate, Level 2

To learn to identify safeguarding issues and uphold excellent standards of care provision for vulnerable adults within the adult health and social care sector. Includes: understanding safeguarding in adult health and social care; principles of dignity in adult health and social care practices; understanding duty of care; understanding dilemmas and public concerns. Duration: 145 hours.

Equality and Diversity
NCFE Certificate, Level 2

To learn about social awareness and good practice of equality and diversity within the community or workplace. Includes: value of creating and maintaining a diverse environment in communities; effects of stereotyping and labelling; how equality and diversity is monitored in the workplace; potential inequalities that can occur within a community. Duration: 180 hours.

Occupational Health and Safety
NCFE Certificate, Level 2

To increase knowledge of health and safety in the workplace. The course covers the principles of health and safety and individual roles in keeping the workplace safe. Duration: 65 hours.

Principles of Business Administration
NCFE Award, Level 2

For carers and administration staff working in a care home setting. The course explores the principles of a business environment including: business document production and information management; developing working relationships with colleagues; business administration tasks and preparing text.

Principles of Dementia Care
NCFE Certificate, Level 2

To increase understanding of dementia afor people who support those with the condition. Includes: different forms of dementia; a person-centred approach to care and support; equality, diversity and inclusion; individual needs and preferences; differing communication needs and abilities; well-being through positive interactions; administration of medication; forms of behaviour and responding to challenging behaviour; benefits of activities to those with dementia. Duration: 123 hours.

Principles of End of Life Care
NCFE Certificate, Level 2

Suitable for health and social care workers who wish to improve knowledge and understanding of end of life care and palliative care. This qualification is mapped to National Occupational standards in Health and Social Care and is relevant to all types of care settings including hospices, care homes, care in the community and primary care. The course focuses on: different perspectives on death/dying; the aims of end of life care; principles of person-centred care planning; supporting/managing pain and discomfort; how dementia impacts on an individual’s end of life care; the role of health and social care workers at the time of death; how to appropriately support the bereaved. Duration: 160 hours.

Principles of the Prevention and Control of Infection
NCFE Certificate, Level 2

For anyone working in a health-care setting. This course will improve practical understanding of cleanliness and hygiene and how to apply good practice relating to infection prevention and control in the workplace. Duration: 111 hours.

Team Leading Knowledge
NCFE Certificate, Level 2

For those who are new to a team leader role, or those who are hoping to become a team leader. Includes: communicating work-related information; managing performance and conflict in the workplace; equality and diversity; developing working relationships with colleagues; health and safety procedures; developing/delivering presentations. Duration: 190 hours.

Understanding Autism
NCFE Certificate, Level 2

For those working, or looking to work, with those who have an autistic spectrum condition. The course aims to provide learners with an understanding of the spectrum of autistic disorders and how they can affect people in different ways, whilst exploring the importance of using a person-centred approach to provide support. Includes: communication and social interaction; sensory processing, perception and cognition; supporting positive behaviour. Duration: 152 hours.

Understanding the Care and Management of Diabetes
NCFE Certificate, Level 2

For those who work with people who have diabetes. The course includes how to apply good practice relating to the care and management of diabetes. Duration: 105 hours.

Understanding the Safe Handling of Medication in Health and Social Care
NCFE Certificate, Level 2

For those who wish to develop their knowledge of the safe handling of medicines, and protect against common errors in relation to medicines and support safe working practices.
