CodeCraft – a Saturday club for 9-14 year olds
January 21, 2019
Places are currently available on CodeCraft, a Saturday morning coding club at North East Scotland College’s Aberdeen City Campus for children aged 9 – 14. Participants will have the opportunity to learn some coding and find out how to host their own Minecraft world on a Raspberry Pi.
Cameron Walker, Head of Faculty for Computing at NESCol, said: “We created this club to inspire young people and encourage them to think about the opportunities available to them in the computing industry in the future. These fun sessions are open to both boys and girls and it doesn’t matter if they’ve never used a Raspberry Pi or played Minecraft before. This is a great opportunity to build on existing skills or learn some completely new ones!”
The club, held at the College’s Aberdeen City Campus (on Gallowgate), will include opportunities to:
- Use a Raspberry Pi to code, develop and create.
- Learn coding skills using Python in Minecraft.
- Program Robots using Lego Mindstorms.
- Harness your creativity to create a Minecraft challenge world with mini games.
- Learn to use MCEdit to get a feel for map editing tools.
- Gain valuable social skills, make new friends and work together to make great builds.
- Learn to create, maintain and host a live Minecraft server that your friends can play on and customise it using plugins to make it a unique experience.
Places, which cost just £5 per session, can be book in 10-week blocks by contacting Deborah Wilson on 01224 612238 or by emailing: d.wilson@nescol.ac.uk
