Woodwork For Improvers
Designed to boost your existing skills when it comes to woodwork.
Why take this course?
Designed as a follow on from the Beginners level, this course gives you the chance to improve your hand at working with wood. With expert tutor guidance, you are again introduced to the variety of techniques and equipment enabling you to gain and improve new skills, to produce some useful and attractive final pieces. You will learn how to use dove tail joints and then go on to make a small box or learn how to make a variety of joints.
What you will experience
Through tutor demonstration and hands-on practical experience you will build on confidence gained during the Beginners course. The course aims to cover:
- Accurate marking and measuring
- Clamping and gluing
- Nailing and drilling
- Use of tennon and coping saws
- Correct use of hand, bench and block planes
- Butt joints, lap joints and dovetails
There are no formal entry requirements for this course, although this course is not suited to complete beginners. Completion of the Woodwork for Beginners course would be useful.
What you will need
Learners will be asked to provide their own overalls or a change of clothing and steel-toed footwear. Materials costs are included in the course fee.
What you need to know
Upon completion of the Improvers course, learners may wish to progress onto other construction courses.
