Business Summer School SCQF Level 4/5
This free course introduces key skills used in business.
Why take this course?
This is an excellent opportunity for those wishing to enter the National Certificate in Business or Administration (SCQF Level 5). This course would benefit those new to further education or those who have not undertaken education or training for some time. IT and study skills will be incorporated in all units.
What you will experience
Students will complete three SQA units, two at SCQF Level 4 and one at SCQF Level 5, which will prepare the way for study at SCQF Level 5, and give:
- Access to qualified, experienced and enthusiastic staff;
- Excellent facilities and services such as the use of libraries and computer rooms;
- Support on completing bursary funding applications.
The ability to communicate effectively is crucial when working in business. In this unit you will develop skills in:
- Summarising and evaluating;
- Speaking and listening.
An Introduction to Financial & Cost Accounting
In this unit you will learn about key ﬁnancial accounting statements and basic costing techniques. You will:
- Prepare simple ﬁnal accounts for a sole trader including an income statement and a balance sheet;
- Prepare a simple job cost statement.
An Introduction to Contract Law
In this unit you will learn about key areas of contract law to enable you to apply this knowledge to everyday business situations, such as contracts between businesses and customers. You will:
- Research various aspects of contract law, learning how contracts are formed, the factors that can affect their validity, and the consequences of a breach of contract;
- Demonstrate your knowledge and understanding of contract law by applying it to business situations;
- Develop a knowledge and understanding of basic consumer rights when entering contracts with business.
What you need to know
This course runs for four weeks, five days a week. Applicants must be committed to attending and participating in all scheduled classes.
