SCQF Level 7
An in-depth study of the principles and applications of electrical engineering.
Why take this course?
This course will introduce you to the principles and applications of electrical engineering. It is aimed at those who may have been out of education for some time, or those who want to boost their qualifications in order to pursue a successful career in the field of electrical engineering.
Please note that Year 2 of this course must be successfully completed in order to complete the full award. Completion of both years normally takes students around 18 months.
What you will experience
You will explore a range of important topics, with units focusing on Single Phase AC Circuits and Electricity Power Systems. The units are designed to enable you to develop knowledge and understanding and apply basic electrical concepts and theorems to the solution of simple electrical problems. Maths for Engineering is also included in order to help you apply algebraic techniques to manipulate expressions and solve equations commonly found in engineering.
- Evening class students: You will be expected to attend two 3.5 hour evening classes each week. The self-study requirements will be up to 6 hours per week.
- Day Release students: You will be expected to attend one 7 hour day at College each week. The self-study requirements will be up to 6 hours per week.
This course will require commitment to self-study to keep up with course work and also significant preparation for assessment and examination.
Those who have recently left school should hold a Higher qualification in Maths or Physics, or should have completed the NC Electrical course.
Those without these qualifications who are returning to education and may be working in industry will be expected to complete the HNC Electrical Engineering: Pre Entry course.
