This course will introduce you to fundamental electrical concepts and processes.
Why take this course?
Electrical Engineers fill key roles in organisations throughout our largest industries, and developments in electrical engineering acts as one of the main driving forces in modern day technology.
This course will introduce you to the skills and knowledge required to progress towards the National Certificate Group Award, meaning you can make a start on your educational and professional development in the field of engineering and progress towards employment, or opt for further study in the form of a Higher National qualification at HNC/HND level.
What you will experience
The course covers a broad range of fundamental topics including electrical wiring, electrical principles, mathematics, safe working practices and how to use Programmable Logic Controllers.
Applicants should have successfully completed a qualification at SVQ Level 2, with the addition of a Maths qualification for direct entry. Alternatively, applicants should have National 5 Maths (Grade C or D).
Mature students may also apply based on experience and/or desire to change career.

If you choose to complete a HNC or HND course after completing your NC, you may want to then consider moving on to a university degree. Depending on the university, you could enter in to year 2 or year 3 of a related course.
Many will choose to pursue work as an electrical craft person in the electrical or oil and gas industries.
