Why take this course?
The general aim of the Unit is to develop advanced knowledge and skills in algebra and calculus that can be used in practical and abstract situations to manage information in mathematical form.
The Outcomes cover partial fractions, standard procedures for both differential calculus and integral calculus, as well as methods for solving both first order and second order differential equations. The importance of logical thinking and proof is emphasised throughout.

You will cover the use of mathematical operational skills, linking to methods in algebra and calculus.
This course requires you to manage your workload independently, and will involve attendance at a campus or centre - often for assessment purposes only.
You are required to have a Higher Mathematics qualification.

About this unit
This unit forms part of the Advanced Higher Mathematics course but can also be studied as a stand alone unit. The Advanced Higher qualification enables learners to develop skills in selecting and applying complex mathematical techniques in a variety of situations requiring knowledge of mathematics. These skills will enable progression to further learning and to employment.

On successful completion of this course, learners could progress to a course in Higher Education - for example a degree or Higher National Diploma in mathematics or in a mathematics-related area.
