Psychology: Research SCQF Level 5
Learn to explain the research process in psychology.
Why take this course?
The aim of this unit is to introduce learners to the research process, research methods and ethics used in psychology. Learners will develop knowledge and understanding of factors to consider when planning and carrying out psychological research. They will also develop numerical skills and an understanding of psychological terminology.
What you will experience
By the end of the unit, you will be able to explain the research process used in psychology by:
- Describing the stages of the research process
- Explaining experimental and non-expiremental methods of research
- Describing ethical guidelines
- Explaining sampling methods used in psychology
- Calculating measures of central tendancy from straightforward data
- Applying and justifying choice of method to research scenarios
There are no formal entry requirements for this course, but all applicants should have an interest in the study of psychology. With any SCQF Level 5 course there will be an element of self-directed learning which will require self-study between classes.

What you need to know
This is a stand-alone unit and does not count towards the National 5 in Psychology qualification. Please see separate entry for our National 5 Psychology course.
