Why take this course?

The IAB Level 1 Award in Manual Bookkeeping (QCF) is broadly comparable to SCQF Level 4 in Scotland and will provide you with essential book keeping skills. The course is accredited by the Institute of Accountants and Bookkeepers (IAB) and covers double entry or manual book keeping systems, serving as a valuable introduction to the practical elements of financial record keeping.

The course is aimed at those who wish to begin their studies of bookkeeping, from a point of no previous knowledge or experience. It is also suitable for those who have some bookkeeping knowledge and skills and want to formalise their competence by gaining a recognised accredited qualification in bookkeeping.

It could be used as a foundation for learners considering a career change, training to become a self-employed practitioner or small business owners wanting an introduction to the function of bookkeeping with a view of keeping financial records for their business.

What you will experience

You will learn how to assess your competence in carrying out a range of basic day-to-day bookkeeping routines and activities using a single entry manual bookkeeping system.

This includes recording business transactions, using the journal, preparing a trial balance, petty cash and bank reconciliations as well as developing an understanding of the basics of VAT.
