Business Research Project: Unit 512 Level 5 Equivalent to SCQF Level 9

A course to enhance the career prospects of those currently working in a quality-orientated role.


Why take this course?

This qualification is aimed at those currently employed in a quality orientated role, who are looking to increase their knowledge and improve their career prospects. It acts as one unit towards the Diploma in Quality Management, for which nine mandatory units must be completed. 

On completion of all units you will be awarded the Diploma in Quality Management, which will provide you with the auditing skills required to develop the ability to plan, conduct and report quality audits against quality criteria. After successful completion you can also use the designated letters DipQ as a suffix after your name, and apply for corporate membership of the CQI - this carries the designated letters MCQI after the suffix of your name. This is important for anyone wishing to progress in the field of quality.

What you will experience

This unit will provide you with an understanding of management principles, disciplines and techniques which are necessary to control a business or other organisation in order to produce a product/service of conforming quality. Examinations are held twice each year, in January and June.

This course will require you to manage your workload independently, with a basic level of tutor support.

Entry requirements

Ideally you should have a CQI Certificate in Quality or equivalent, and a good standard of Maths and English (GCSE, Standard Grade Maths and English or equivalent). You should be currently working in a quality role or have access to work/liaise with your quality department.

Only individuals who have submitted an ED-03 to the CQI for the Diploma Award prior to 31st December 2016 may commence study on this unit.  If you are uncertain if you can start this unit please contact:

Anything else?

This is a Distance Learning course which means you can study at home, in the workplace or wherever you choose at times that are convenient for you. You do not have any classes to attend. The materials for this course are paper based and will be posted to you by recorded delivery. As you progress through the course materials you will find explanations of each feature, followed by practical exercises. You will be supported throughout the course by a specialist Distance Learning Tutor. Your tutor will contact you (via your College email account) within 7-10 working days of receiving your welcome letter and materials.

As you progress they will continue to make regular contact to offer support and guidance, usually by email but sometimes by phone, to ensure you are making good progress and to support your learning throughout. You must be able to study independently through the course materials. Please note that it is a requirement that all email communication between staff and students is made using College email accounts. This ensures that the College complies with Data Protection legislation and that information is accessed only by authorised users.

Whilst studying with Business & Community Development, you will have access to the Library+ sites and the Digital Skills Space. You will also have technical and administrative support from the Business & Community Development team.
