The Department of Health policy on reducing obesity and improving diet notes that over 60% of adults and 30% of children are overweight or obese, and health problems associated with this cost the NHS over £5 billion per year.

This course is designed for a wide range of learners, who perhaps have some existing knowledge of nutrition and healthy eating. Parents, carers, catering staff and students may also find the topics covered of particular benefit.

The course will improve your understanding of nutrition and diet, the role it plays in improving and maintaining health and wellbeing, and how attitudes towards food can influence and impact on wellbeing. The objectives of this qualification are to:

  • Give those who are working, or intending to work, in settings such as Sport and Recreation, Exercise and Fitness, Hospitality and Catering or Healthcare an understanding of nutrition and health to support their role in the workplace.
  • Enable learners to progress to other qualifications in this subject area, or within the wider area of healthcare, sport and leisure, or hospitality and catering.
