Former engineering student shares journey
April 5, 2023
Former student David Williamson returned to Fraserburgh Campus to share his engineering journey which began at the Campus in 2008.
David is a Project Manager at TechnipFMC and he is also a chartered engineer with IMECHE.
David spent time with students who are currently working towards engineering technician level qualifications.
He said, ”I remember being in the same position as you all not so many years ago now and I can honestly say that without the direct help of the lecturers here at NESCol I don’t think I’d be where I am today.
“I began with the HNC Mechanical Engineering qualification which was instrumental in helping me gain an apprenticeship with Baker Hughes. There were only 8 jobs and over 1000+ applicants so the competition was fierce, and the HNC helped me stand out at the time. I returned to College a few years later to complete my HND Mechanical Engineering on day release.”
David then gained his MSC in Subsea Engineering followed by an MSc in Project Management at the University of Aberdeen.
Mechanical Engineering lecturer Graemie Watt said, “It means a lot when a former student takes the time to come back into the College to help inspire those that are at the beginning of their careers. David also talked about employability skills and shared his view on the direction the energy industry is taking. He also gave some useful tips on how to gain an edge in the job market.”
