Graduation season begins with Fraserburgh ceremony

September 21, 2024

NESCol hosts its first graduation ceremony of the year today as the achievements of the class of 2024 are celebrated.

Fraserburgh Campus is the venue for this morning’s ceremony, with attention switching to the Music Hall in Aberdeen on 1 October for two further events.

Hosted by BBC Scotland presenter and journalist Fiona Stalker, the graduations are a highlight of the College calendar and this year will include Modern Apprentices marking the completion of their qualifications.

NESCol Principal Neil Cowie said: “We are looking forward to a fantastic occasion and an opportunity to reflect on the notable achievements of a cohort spanning many different subjects and specialisms.

“What each has in common is the dedication, knowledge and skill demonstrated to reach this point. Graduation is always a moment in which to reflect on the accomplishments up to this point – but more than anything it is about looking forward to a bright and rewarding future for our graduates.”

This morning’s ceremony will be attended by those who completed their studies and training at Fraserburgh Campus and will also feature a number of special awards, including a series of engineering prizes sponsored by Score Group. The Endeavour Award, presented by the Rotary Club of Fraserburgh, and SQA Student Award will also be announced.

Neil Cowie added: “There is always a wonderful sense of community spirit at our graduation ceremonies and that will shine through this weekend. We’re grateful to the many industry and community partners and stakeholders who will play their part. We are also very appreciative of the role the family, friends and all those closest to our students have played in the journey of every individual who will cross the stage to become a NESCol graduate.

“More than a third of school leavers in Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire choose NESCol as their next destination and demand for places at the College is growing. Students themselves tell us they love the NESCol experience, with student satisfaction rates among the highest in the Scottish college sector, and achievement is also on a significant upward trajectory.

“Those measures are a reflection not only on the quality of our teaching and support staff, but above all else of the contribution our students have made and continue to make. The class of 2024 have been at the heart of all of the good news emanating from NESCol during their time with us and we look forward to following their journey with interest.”
