NESCol enters partnership with PlayStation First
February 29, 2024
North East Scotland College has become part of PlayStation First, Sony Interactive Entertainment’s global academic programme. It is the latest stage of the College’s rapidly accelerating focus on games development.
The PlayStation First partnership will allow NESCol to access PlayStation development tools and support. NESCol students aiming to make their mark in the vibrant sector will now be able to use the same hardware that game studios around the world are using to create ground-breaking, innovative games on PlayStation.
NESCol has become the first Scottish college to achieve the status. It comes at a time when NESCol is expanding its facilities and course offerings across games development. The College’s Fraserburgh and Aberdeen City campuses provide a range of options for students passionate about pursuing a career in the industry. Full-time courses starting in summer 2024 range from an entry level Introduction to Computer Games Design through to a HND in Games Design.
Zack Anderson, Academic Improvement Lead for computing at NESCol, said: “It’s a hugely exciting time for the tech sector in Scotland. Games development is playing a significant part in the growth that we’re seeing, with new career opportunities and a real creative buzz.
“NESCol graduates are already playing an important role in the industry and it’s vital that we continue to develop that pipeline of talent and innovation.
“Being part of PlayStation First means our students will be able to develop their game projects directly on PlayStation platforms, further showcasing the excellent work being developed as part of NESCol courses.”
