Cooking up a storm in the Country Range Student Chef Challenge

Three Professional Cookery students from NESCol's Aberdeen City Campus have made it through to the finals of the prestigious Country Range Student Chef Challenge.
Jack Morrison, Lucy Gordon and Zoe Donald competed in the semi-finals on Friday, 9 February at City of Glasgow College. They competed against student chefs from across the country, and will now progress to the finals at the Hotelympia in London.
The brief this year was "around the world in three spices." The student chefs were required to prepare and produce a three course, three cover menu in 90 minutes. The NESCol trio produced langoustine bisque infused with cumin and saffron, pan-fried potato wrapped in langoustine and crispy langoustine wonton; followed by lamb loin, spiced chicken kofta, aubergine puree, harissa couscous, lamb sauce, yoghurt and mint dressing; rounded off with empress rice, vanilla, cinnamon and star anise, poached pear, banana and cardamom frozen yoghurt, orange and coconut tuille and puffed rice.
The competition is a prestigious culinary competition which has become a firm fixture in the catering industries calendar. Jack, Lucy and Zoe will compete in the final in London on the 7th March.
