Fashion Showcase at North East Scotland College

A group of North East Scotland College (NESCol) students are putting the finishing touches to their creations in preparation for the annual End of Year Fashion Show.  This will be the first time that many of the students, who are studying textiles and fashion design and manufacture, will showcase their unique creations in front of family, friends and members of the public.

Held in the Basement Studio Theatre at NESCol’s Aberdeen City Campus (Gallowgate), the show will see students take to the catwalk on Thursday 8th June modelling creations that they have both designed and constructed themselves.  The event is open to friends and family alongside special guests from industry and higher education who are always impressed by the style, quality and imagination demonstrated in the work on display.

This year’s show will feature work inspired by a variety of themes.  Janice Scott, Curriculum Manager for Creative Industries at NESCol, said, “Our second year HND Textiles students have collaborated with The Closet – Vintage, a boutique on Jopp’s Lane, Aberdeen.  The shop has been very supportive, allowing the students to examine and investigate details on historical garments and objects to inspire mark making, surface and stitching on their newly created digitally printed summer dresses.  The first year HND group have explored fragile elements in nature with the support of Aberdeen University Zoology Museum and Cruickshank Botanic Gardens.  They have been inspired to contrast these ideas with concrete elements of the city around them to develop shirt designs and further these ideas in the structure of skirts and trousers.

During the show, our NC Fashion Design and Manufacture class will have a guest section to showcase their newly developed garment assembly skills, essential for progression to HND level study

Janice continued, “All of the students have worked really hard over the past year in professional collaboration and are looking forward to being able to present their garments during the Show which is the perfect finale to their year at College.”
