Graduate spotlight - Ryan Little

When Ryan Little left Ellon Academy, he applied to study an NC in Mechanical Engineering at North East Scotland College’s Fraserburgh Campus.

During his time at college, the opportunity arose for him to apply for a place on the Shell Engineering Scheme, a prestigious fast-track course designed by Shell in conjunction with NESCol to meet the up and coming needs of the energy industry.  He said, “The scheme sounded really good – it offered the opportunity to gain four qualifications in two years alongside work placements at the St Fergus Gas Terminal.”

After a successful interview, Ryan was delighted to be offered a place.  He said, “The course was hard work but I loved it because I was learning about things I was interested in and I knew I wanted to pursue a career in this field.”

Ryan recently completed his studies on the scheme and credits it with helping him find his first full-time job in the industry.  He said, “The qualifications and work experience I got during the scheme have helped me to secure an apprenticeship as an Electronic Technician in the oil and gas industry.  This training for this post will include day release at NESCol and I am delighted that I will get the chance to study at the College again.”
