NESCol Apprentice of the Year Winners

Scottish Apprenticeship Week 2019 was celebrated in style at NESCol's campuses this week. Alongside celebrating the hard work and achievement of apprentices that have completed their qualification over the past year, the College held the first NESCol Apprentice of the Year awards. Sponsored by Moray East Offshore Windfarm the award winners were revealed at two events attended by employers, family and friends held at Aberdeen Altens and Fraserburgh Campuses.

At Fraserburgh Principal and Chief Executive Liz McIntyre presented the certificates and awards together with Ewan Watson, Wind Turbine Package Manager for the Moray East Offshore Windfarm.

Liz McIntyre commented: "Many apprentices confirm that it is the unique blend of work based learning with College based study that is so attractive to them. This vocational route allows trainees to progress within their chosen career as they learn the fundamentals and develop the skills of their trade.

"The College remains one of the largest training providers for apprentices in the region with over 400 live apprenticeship currently across Engineering, Automotive, Care, Business & Administration, Management, Freight Logistics, Warehousing and Hairdressing. We are delighted to formally recognise and celebrate the achievements of all involved — both apprentice and employer."

Ewan Watson, from Moray East Offshore Windfarm said: "The Modern Apprenticeship is the first stage in your professional development. We really do depend on all of your skills and I'm delighted that you have all taken the time to attend the event today, to let us celebrate your success with you."

Over 200 guests attended the events, applauding the successes of apprentices, award nominees and winners.

In addition to the Apprentice of the Year Awards the Ian Corney Memorial Award for Mechanical Engineering was awarded to Dylan Mair from Gray & Adams.
