NESCol Pony Olympics 2015
Tuesday, 20 October 2015
The hugely successful first NESCol Pony Olympics took place at the College's Craibstone Campus on Friday 19 June.
The College's five Shetland ponies took on a variety of events with the help of their handlers, a group of Introduction to Animal Care students.Paolo, Frankie, Angus, Fergus and Dougal, kitted out in matching head bands and ankle warmers, took on an obstacle course, bobbed for apples, raced around the car park and played musical chairs along with some exceptional show jumping. Following these events, an overall tie was declared between Team Dougal, pictured second from right, and Team Fergus, far right, and the students voted to let a further round of apple bobbing decide the winner. In a closely fought final event, where the students had to bob for the apples if the ponies didn't manage to, Team Dougal narrowly edged out Team Fergus and was named the overall winner.Rosettes were then awarded to all ponies and students.
Following the event, a cheque for £1000 was presented to the Scottish SPCA. Students and staff based at the College's Craibstone Campus raised the money at several events during the 2014-2015 academic session including a dog show and dog pampering day.
