Scottish Government visit marks Climate Week

September 25, 2024

NESCol welcomed Graeme Dey MSP, the Scottish Government Minister for Higher and Further Education, to Altens Campus as part of Scotland’s Climate Week.

As part of the national activity, running through to Sunday, the Minister met with Principal Neil Cowie and leadership team colleagues to find out more about the College’s pivotal role in energy transition, training the skilled workforce driving the journey to net zero in the North East and beyond.

The visit to Altens Campus provided the opportunity to see the site of the new Energy Transition Skills Hub, due to open in 2025, and to meet with students who recently enrolled on the ECITB Wind Turbine Pathway – benefiting from the country’s first net zero scholarships, launched by NESCol in partnership with ECITB two years ago.

The Minister also toured workshops showcasing renewable construction technology and skills, including photovoltaic panels as well as ground and air source heat pumps.
