HND Acting and Performance
“If it wasn’t for College I wouldn’t have the confidence that I have now to market myself as an actor. I am the product so it’s a different kind of confidence that, I think, you need for yourself. College was definitely the first stepping stone for me – to take charge of my own career, to take the lead, make my own decisions with support and guidance from my tutors.”
Danielle Jam left school feeling excited that she was taking charge of her career by enrolling on to the HND Acting & Performance course at NESCol. The course was exactly what she wanted to get into – acting – and she credits working with her fellow students as one of the most enjoyable parts of her time at NESCol. From different backgrounds and experiences, the class all shared a passion for acting.
Undoubtedly the full productions – Animal Farm, A Christmas Carol and The Gut Girls – were highlights of the course for Danielle. This is when it began to feel real for her and she felt like she was becoming the professional actor she’d dreamed of.
After gaining her HND she went onto Edinburgh Napier and Queen Margaret University to study the Acting for Stage and Screen course for two years. Here she was approached by an agent who submitted her for a CBeebies’ role in Molly & Mack, which she read for and got the part.
After completing her degree she went on to perform at the Edinburgh Fringe for the first time, then joined Dundee Rep’s Graduate Actor Scheme, a programme that helps graduates make the transition from drama school into the industry.
She is now a professional actor based in Glasgow. Danielle’s credits to date include: A Play, A Pie and A Pint at Òran Mór; Ten Feet Tall Theatre’s production of Midsummer Night’s Dream; Sonnet Youth Theatre’s Scottish tour of Thick Skin, Elastic Heart, DASH, a BBC drama Short and CBeebies’ Molly & Mack.
