“I think more women should consider studying engineering, it’s a career that can take you anywhere you want to go and is not limited to oil and gas.”
Emma Craig has embarked on a career with Virgin Trains East Coast that is full steam ahead! An Apprentice Engineer, Emma is studying the HND Electrical Engineering at NESCol as part of a Modern Apprenticeship with Virgin. Emma came to College to study engineering after leaving school, inspired by her dad and other family members who have always worked in the discipline. She came to NESCol to study SVQ Level 2 in Electrical Engineering and was made aware of the opportunity at Virgin through her lecturers.
Emma said, “I really enjoy my job. It can be challenging fitting in study and work at times but the lecturers are great and Virgin are also very accommodating. I’m often asked if I’ve found it difficult being a woman in such a male dominated area but it’s never bothered me and all the guys I work and study with think it’s great that I’m doing engineering. I think more women should consider studying engineering, it’s a career that can take you anywhere you want to go and is not limited to oil and gas.”
