Foundation Apprenticeship
FA Social Services & Healthcare
“I think the course has been a great preparation for the jump from school to university. “
FA course title: Social Services & Healthcare
Secondary school attended: Cults Academy
Why did you choose this Foundation Apprenticeship?
I thought it would be a good experience for me while in my sixth year as it’s related to what I want do when I leave school. The placement offered during the course also really appealed to me.
What are your course highlights so far?
The course has been really interesting and I’ve really enjoyed my placement at Tor-Na-Dee Care Home. I’m there every Tuesday and have got a lot of satisfaction from interacting and helping to care for the elderly residents in the ward I’m based in. I’ve also been helping the Activities Leader at the home with the programme they run for residents and it’s been really rewarding to see them enjoy the different activities available.
How do you find studying at NESCol compared to school?
It’s a lot more relaxed and you’re encouraged to take responsibility for your learning. I think the course has been a great preparation for the jump from school to university.
What are your plans for the future?
I’ve applied to study Paramedic Practice at several Scottish universities and hope to gain a place starting in September.
