Introduction to Beauty Therapy
“My advice is to choose a course you are passionate about. You’ll love what you’re studying and have the best time and experience here.”
Viktorija recently completed the Introduction to Beauty Therapy course and will now be taking a year out from her studies…to start her role as Regional President for NESCol’s Students’ Association!
36-year-old Viktorija Nikitina was born in Latvia and moved to Scotland in June 2009. She chose to study Beauty Therapy at NESCol as the programme matched her career goals.
She said: “The location of the College is perfect. When I visited, everyone was friendly and helpful, making me feel right at home.”
Viktorija enjoyed the practical lessons when she was working with clients the most. Her course highlight was the Hair & Beauty End of Year Show where almost 50 students presented creative, themed looks.
She said: “The show was challenging but the perfect opportunity to demonstrate what you have learned during the year. It was a catwalk show and everyone had their own models to work on.
“I was delighted to win first place on my course with my thunderstorm-themed costume and body painting.”
Viktorija is no stranger to award wins during her time at NESCol. She was also chosen as one of this year’s Go Celebrate! Awards winners for her efforts running the International Society and Languages Cafe.
She said: “My favourite part about the College experience has been meeting new people and making friends through the International Society and Languages Cafe. I’ve really enjoyed the events, stalls, meetings and fundraising with the society members. It was great fun and we’ve made some beautiful memories.”
With all her hard work supporting other students, it’s no surprise that Viktorija has been voted Regional President for the Students’ Association for the next academic year.
She said: “I decided to apply for the role to develop my leadership skills, make a positive impact on the community and gain valuable experience working with diverse groups of people.”
Viktorija’s key aims for her time in post include raising the profile of the Students’ Association, boosting student engagement in their activities, and promoting diversity and inclusion.
“I would also like to build partnerships with local businesses to support our existing projects such as the student pantry and breakfast club, as well as our clubs and societies.”
After her year as President, Viktorija is planning to return to her studies.
Looking back on her NESCol journey so far, she said: “I would recommend the Beauty Therapy course, especially to those who plan to have their own salon one day as you need to learn everything from the beginning.
“The College supported me in many ways. My lecturers were all approachable, and there were library resources and counselling and wellbeing services available.
“My advice is to choose a course you are passionate about. You’ll love what you’re studying and have the best time and experience here.”
