RecyCol

North East Scotland College’s very own charity shop

About RECYCol

RECYCol is North East Scotland College’s very own charity shop. Since opening in September 2007, the shop has raised £38,500.

It was initially set up as a training facility for some of our Learning Opportunities students, where they could develop valuable, hands-on work experience and enhance their CVs. Increasing involvement with schools has meant that school link students can now use it as a training facility too, experiencing retail first-hand. It helps students to make an informed decision about whether or not a career in retail is something they would like to pursue in the future. The money raised goes to a wide range of charities.

At the end of each year RECYCol, along with students and staff, nominate charities to which profits will be donated. Charity representatives can then visit the College to accept the donation and tell us a bit more about the charity and the work they’re currently doing.

All donations are welcomed, with the exception of electrical goods – unfortunately these cannot be resold. The shop also works alongside a small, staff and student-run coffee shop, often open on Wednesday lunchtimes, and the shop utilises a number of alternative resources such as online selling, prize draws and raffles in order to raise money.
