HND Fitness, Health and Exercise; Sport and Exercise Massage (part-time )
“After finishing the evening course my mind was set on Sports Massage as my future career and I knew that I no longer wanted to go to University.”
Jenny Duncan is a qualified Personal Trainer and Sports Massage Therapist with her own business, Reset Sports Massage Therapy in Westhill.
Although Jenny always aimed to work in the Sport arena she took a very different route from the one that she planned.
She said, “ Originally I wanted to complete my HND Fitness, Health and Exercise qualification with NESCol and then go on to University. However at the end of my first year at College I became aware of the part-time Sport & Exercise Massage qualification, available as an evening class. It just really appealed to me and I knew that I really wanted to do it so I decided to study for this alongside the final year of my HND.
“After the first few weeks it just clicked. My lecturers was so good, so enthusiastic and engaging that I just couldn’t wait to get going. There were a lot of assessments throughout the year and I practiced some of the techniques on my family and friends! I made a lot of friends on that course and I still speak to them now. Some were on the same full-time HND as myself others were take up sports massage as a hobby. It was hard work but I was focused and organised.
“ I’m so glad I did – it changed my plans completely. After finishing the evening course my mind was set on Sports Massage as my future career and I knew that I no longer wanted to go to University. I didn’t want to wait a further two years before becoming fully qualified. That was a big decision for me as my family had taken the University route and most of my friends were going off to get degrees. But I knew that I didn’t want to wait and I couldn’t be happier. I was able to fast track my career, gain my Level 3 qualification in a short period of time and I now work for myself plus I have a position as a Social Media Manager and Admin Lead for a healthcare clinic.
“If it wasn’t for the sports massage evening class, I truly believe I wouldn’t have sailed through the Level 3 course the way I did. It gave me such confidence knowing that I had quite a bit of experience and knowledge of massage already. I highly recommend completing this course prior to Level 3 to any upcoming students.”
