Hairdressing is a well-established industry with a number of qualifications available, including Vocational Related Qualifications (VRQs) and Scottish Vocational Qualifications (SVQs). By participating in this course you will develop essential transferrable skills for working in the customer-facing service industries. You will also develop specific hairdressing skills, allowing you to pursue further training or employment opportunities after leaving school.
The course will provide you with a broad introduction to hairdressing whilst allowing you to gain a widely recognised qualification. You will undergo significant personal development throughout the course, and develop strong interpersonal, organisation and planning skills. You will:
You will experience a variety of teaching methods and activities, including classroom-based theory lessons and practical vocational training. You will be taught in classes held within a College Salon, or a salon in a local school. The course is made up of the following five units:
As well as this, throughout the course you will be given the opportunity to review and identify how your skills are developing. You will be expected to demonstrate:
To achieve the full course, you must attend regularly and successfully complete all units. Assessments will be based on a range of practical activities (in real or simulated settings) and assessors will observe you as you undertake each activity. You will also complete some research tasks and short written assessments.
Please note that some assessments may require you to bring along a client aged 16 or over.
On successful completion of the full course you will receive a City & Guilds Certificate for the units achieved.

There are no particular entry requirements for this course, but pupils should be prepared to ensure they attend regularly in order to develop the skills required to achieve success. Pupils should also be prepared to meet the expected personal presentation standards, including wearing the prescribed uniform.
Whilst you are taking part in the course you will be required to wear the appropriate recommended uniform and black non–slip enclosed shoes.

This course is only available to pupils in S4 to S6 across Aberdeen City and Shire, giving pupils the opportunity to experience life as a College student whilst staying on at school.
