Successful completion of this course and exam will allow you to apply for your personal licence to sell or authorise the sale of alcohol in Scotland within the licensed retail sector. This 1 day course is for anyone working in a job role that requires them to authorise retail sales of alcohol in either on or off premises in Scotland. The course will cover topics such as:

This will ensure you have the knowledge and skills and be aware of all legal requirements. At the end of the training, you will sit a multiple choice online exam which will give an instant result.

This one-day course is for anyone aged 18 and over who wishes to become a Personal Licence Holder and for those who authorise the sale of alcohol, or manage or supervise in premises where alcohol is sold. It is a ‘relevant qualification’ under the Licensing (Scotland) Act 2005 for anyone applying for a personal licence in Scotland.
Candidates will be expected to complete pre-course reading prior to attending the course. An electronic copy of the mandatory course handbook will be emailed to candidates in advance of the course and a hard copy will be issued on the day. Approximately 5 working days before the course, candidates will be sent joining instructions which will outline arrangements for the day.
Candidates must present acceptable forms of identification before being permitted to sit the exam. If not able to present an acceptable form of ID, a candidate will not be allowed to sit the exam. Acceptable forms of ID are;
Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA).
Please note that students who require to attend only the Refresher training should email the Part-time Learning team or call 01224 612144 in the first instance. Students, in this case, will be expected to attend the full day but will sit the exam for the Refresher certificate only.
