Celebrations for class of 2026 at Aberdeen graduations

October 7, 2026

Go out and make a difference in the world – that was the message to NESCol graduates as they took the applause of hundreds of guests at the Music Hall in Aberdeen yesterday (6 October).

Principal Neil Cowie used his address to encourage the class of 2026 to follow the proud tradition of the College’s alumni in making waves across the region, nation and worldwide.

He said: “Our graduates have earned every good thing that comes their way. In this ever changing world, experience tells us the qualifications, skills and qualities they have built during their time under our wing will provide a very firm foundation.

“Our ceremonies are always a highlight of the College calendar and this year has been no exception. The joy and love in the hall shines through, and we are very pleased to have been able to play our part in sending a fantastic group of graduates on a path to rewarding next steps in education, work and in life.”

Yesterday’s two ceremonies included students and apprentices from a broad range of subject areas at the Altens and City campuses – from engineering and construction to care professions, business and creative industries. The Fraserburgh Campus ceremony took place last month.

BBC presenter Fiona Stalker was the host and Johnny Brooks, a NESCol graduate from previous years, the guest of honour as he provided an inspiring address to the class of 2026. He spoke of building his career in media production and events, having been encouraged to develop those passions as a College student.

There were two special awards as part of the ceremonies. Krystian Surdel, who graduated with a Modern Apprenticeship in Logistics Operations, was named as the NESCol Modern Apprentice of the year. The MHA Excellence in Accounting Award was presented to Yanting Zhou, an HND Accounting Graduate. Both were selected by NESCol judges for their skill, dedication and academic excellence.

NESCol is one of the largest providers of vocational education and training in Scotland, delivering to more than 20,000 full-time, part-time and online learning students each year. The College serves an area covering more than 2,500 square miles and operates from its main Aberdeen Altens, Aberdeen City and Fraserburgh campuses as well as the Scottish Maritime Academy in Peterhead. The Altens Campus incorporates the Energy Transition Sills Hub, launched in 2025 to drive the North East’s net zero ambitions.
