This is a classroom based academic programme at a level similar to second year university. It provides the 18 credits required to top-up the HNC Mechanical Engineering qualification so that it becomes the HND Mechanical Engineering qualification.
The course focuses on how to solve mechanical engineering problems using mathematical solutions, which are applied to mechanical engineering principles.
This course has a number of assessable reports and a graded unit project which will need completion and access to study materials outwith class time. Significant preparation for assessment and examination is also required.

Candidates should have successfully completed the HNC Mechanical Engineering course. Please note that the framework for mechanical engineering has changed in recent years. Students acquiring an HNC prior to 2006 should seek guidance prior to booking.
A Foundation Apprenticeship in any subject area will be considered equivalent as one unrelated Higher for entry to this course.
You will need a scientific calculator, maths set and appropriate stationery.
Your course may be free if you are not a full time student with NESCol and you are: in receipt of benefits; or care-experienced; or your household taxable income falls below defined levels.

Year 1 and Year 2 evening classes at Aberdeen Altens Campus run for 36 weeks, with two evening classes per week. However, for nine weeks of this block, classes will run for three evenings. These dates are to be confirmed. Please contact the Student Advice Centre for more information.
