Why take this course?

The European Computer Driving Licence is now known as the International Certification of Digital Literacy – ICDL for short.

It is the internationally recognised qualification for computer users, and is widely recognised by employers as proof of ability and competence when working with IT.

This is the next step of the ICDL qualification – ideally for those progressing from the Level 1 qualification – and would be of interest to those who work with computers but don’t have any formal qualifications, or for those who simply wish to extend their knowledge.

The course covers core IT applications which are commonly used in many businesses around the world, and completing this qualification will improve your understanding of these applications whilst teaching you how to use the software efficiently. If employed the course will help you prove to your employer that you can use these applications productively and professionally, and ig you are unemployed the course will help you to gain important skills to help improve your job prospects.

What you will experience

This qualification will allow you to develop the IT user knowledge and skills needed to work productively in an administrative job which requires the use of common IT software applications.

You will complete four specific level 2 units from the ITQ framework:

  • Word Processing Software
  • Spreadsheet Software
  • Presentation Software
  • Improving Productivity Using IT

You can expect to learn about the following:

  • How to create and edit word processing documents
  • How to manipulate numerical data using spreadsheets
  • How to design and produce presentations to communicate information
  • How to use IT tools to improve productivity; such as using automated tools like macros and mail merge.

The tests are administered throughout Europe by accredited Test Centres, and each test takes 45 minutes. North East Scotland College has been approved by the BCS as an Accredited Test Centre.  A test for each module must be passed to achieve the certificate. The course fees cover the cost of one attempt at each of the assessments, which must be taken at the College’s Assessment Centre.
