Why take this course?

This MCA approved training equips candidates with basic workshop practices, repair methods and safe tool use while developing confidence in overseeing contractors during repairs.  It combines theoretical learning and practical training, providing a foundation for Small Vessels Engineers to perform routine maintenance and identify potential machinery faults before they become serious issues.

What you will experience

There are seven learning outcomes within the course:

  1. Learner demonstrates competent knowledge of basic hand tool skills
  2. Learner demonstrates competent knowledge of choice, condition of, safe operation of and use of appropriate power tools
  3. Learner demonstrates competent knowledge of workshop safety procedures, safe working practices on board and threats to the Marine environment from their actions
  4. Learner demonstrates competent knowledge of general principles of pipework using copper and plastic
  5. Learner demonstrates competent knowledge of construction and repairs using Fibre-Reinforced Plastic (FRP)
  6. Learner demonstrates competent knowledge of the general principles of basic welding skills
  7. Learner demonstrates competent knowledge of the procedures required to safely dismantle, inspect and rebuild basis ships equipment
